Comedienne LaWon Hight

Having always had a humorous personality, as well as being known as the “life of the party”, growing up LaWan Alexis Taylor Hight made her leap to the stage in the winter of 1999 when asked to provide entertainment for a Christian “Gong Show.” Seeing that she was not, in her words, “gifted to sing” she decided to do something funny just to see if the audience would laugh. Until this time though, she had never thought about being a comedienne, and especially not a professional entertainer.

Following that debut of sort, countless doors opened for her to perform at venues locally and along the east coast. To date she has performed at numerous women’s services, conferences, community events, retreats and other gatherings. She has also been blessed to share the stage with recording artists Kim Burrell, Lorraine Stancil and Out of Eden.

LaWan believes that her calling to comedy is definitely a ministry commissioned by God to bring laughter and joy to the body of Christ. She looks at it as a new and exciting way to spread the gospel's good news.

Since giving her life to the Lord Jesus Christ some nineteen years ago, LaWan is a member of Judah Christian Center, under the awesome leadership of Pastors Marvin and Veda McCoy.

Along with living for the Lord and serving up laughs by the pound, LaWan also finds great joy in rearing her four children, Courtney, Kendall, Kenard and Kent. One of the mottos that undergird the life and ministry of this native Washingtonian is: “if you can only laugh in the face of the Devil, half of your battle is already won.”
